O Centro de Informação das Nações Unidas para o Brasil (UNIC Rio) se estabeleceu no Rio de Janeiro em 1947, sendo o primeiro escritório desse tipo criado pela ONU na América Latina. Sua missão é informar a população brasileira sobre os grandes temas da ONU, seus objetivos, seu trabalho e propostas.

O UNIC Rio apoia todo o Sistema das Nações Unidas no Brasil no planejamento e execução de iniciativas de comunicação estratégica. Desde 1987, o UNIC Rio funciona no Palácio Itamaraty do Rio de Janeiro.

O Centro de Informação da ONU para o Brasil trabalha em conjunto com variados setores da sociedade como governo, universidades e escolas, empresários, sociedade civil organizada, comunidade diplomática, organizações internacionais, grupos religiosos, a família das Nações Unidas e o público em geral. Coopera estreitamente com organizações não-governamentais e com diversas entidades da sociedade civil dedicadas à divulgação e ensino dos temas das Nações Unidas. O UNIC Rio lhes fornece informação e assessoria e colabora na organização de eventos de informação e sensibilização.

The United Information Centre as part of the Department of Global Communication and Strategy Division (DGC) invites you to be part of an internship programme during the second semester of 2019 until 30 January 2020. The internship position is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Rio City. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO). He or she reports to the NIO of UNIC Rio.
The internship is UNPAID. The Interns must cover full time working hours, for a minimum of 4 months and maximum of 6 months (Monday to Friday; 35 hours per week). Part-time schedules could be arranged depending of UNIC Rio’s requirements.
 
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Director and NIO of UNIC Rio, the daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
^ Provide general office support; respond to complex information requests and inquiries of UNIC Rio; draft media and other communication documents.
^ Assist UNIC Rio in the production and delivery of information communications products and services;
^ Assist in the updates and further development of internal databases (including contact of Rio, Cuba and the Dominican Republic); update UNIC Rio ‘s web site and social media accounts to include drafting and editing content;
^ Assist in the researching and compiling of basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services about the UN.
^ Assist with UNIC Rio photographic material; by producing digital imaging; write captions for UN photos, when required.
^ Assist in the production and editing of UNIC Rio video/film projects, radio program or website projects; produce scripts, cue cards, etc., select and catalogue sound and visual materials for inclusion in UN productions.
^ Assist in development and final production of social media products, as well as enrich potential online initiatives to audiences to raise awareness of the UN work. ^ Performs other duties as assigned.

Client orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view. Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect. Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

 

Education:
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
^ Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
^ Be computer literate in standard software applications;
^ Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
^ Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience:
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages:
 
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in Portuguese and knowledge of English (at least read, write and translate) are required for the internship.
