Project Manager, Climate Action Planning – C40 Cities

Position Description

We are looking for an experienced individual to support the Head of Climate Action Planning Latin America deliver a programme of technical assistance, guidance and training to C40 cities in Latin America to (a) build technical capacity to develop ambitious and robust long-term climate action plans that are compliant with the goals of the Paris Agreement, and (b) identify mechanisms to facilitate better national and local integration of climate action.
The ideal candidate will combine strong project management capabilities, excellent problem solving, analytics and communication skills with expertise in GHG inventories, scenario planning and climate action planning and a solid understanding of cities and climate change.

Responsibilities:

The Project Manager Climate Action Planning Latin America will work closely with the Head of Climate Action Planning Latin America, C40 City Advisers, and a team of consultants to develop and deliver a varied technical assistance programme to help build capacity through: workshops, direct support, procurement of consultancy services and facilitation of peer-to-peer exchange. The main areas of responsibility are to:

• Conduct and review detailed reviews of city climate action plans;
• Provide guidance and support on climate action planning to C40 City Advisers;
• Coordinate delivery of a bespoke package of support for individual cities;
• Manage and maintain effective working relationships and communications with C40 City Advisers, and wider network of C40 colleagues;
• Procurement and contract management of consultancy services;
• Organise in-city and regional workshops;
• Develop high quality data outputs for C40 cities, C40 staff and partner organisations, including analysis and reports to yield insight and demonstrate thought leadership.

Person Specification:

• Technical expertise in completing city-wide greenhouse gas emission inventories / scenarios, climate risk assessments and developing climate action plans;
• Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking and analytical capabilities, with advanced MS Excel and data management skills;
• Significant experience in government, business or NGO sectors with a focus on sustainability and/or climate change;
• Demonstrable project, budget and people management experience, including working with third party delivery teams, and ability to manage multiple parallel tasks;
• Strong interpersonal, relationship building and written and verbal communication skills, combined with English and Spanish fluency (additional fluency in Portuguese preferred);
• Experience of organising, developing and facilitating webinars and interactive and enquiry-based workshops;
• Experience working in Latin America and across different cultures and languages.
