Our Internship Programme offers a select group of outstanding students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to the IPC-IG as a global forum of research, policy dialogue and South-South learning in the area of development innovations.
It is designed to provide support to the IPC-IG’s applied research activities, policy advisory services, and communications outreach, among other areas. This opportunity will complement the interns own practical experience in various issues related to social protection and South-South cooperation, in addition, our programme offers the prospect of becoming involved in the United Nations System. This programme operates under the rules and policies of the UNDP Internship regulations and has a minimum duration of 12 weeks and maximum duration of 24 weeks.

IPC-IG working areas:

  1. Communications: Provide support to the IPC-IG’s communications department, including social media and events.
  2. Knowledge Management for the platform socialproctetion.orgProvide support to the socialprotection.org online platform through systematisation, organisation, exchange and dissemination of knowledge regarding public policies in the areas of social protection and South-South cooperation.
  3. Programme and Operations: Provide support in the internship programme, human resources, procurement areas, finance and project management tasks and activities.
  4. Research: Provide technical support to the Centre’s research on social protection programmes, South-South Cooperation, demographic scenarios and public policies.

Required qualifications for internship applicants: 

  • Enrolment in an undergraduate level or a graduate-level programme in a recognised university; OR a certifiable university degree. In this case, the applicant must start the internship within one year of graduation;
  • Demonstrate interest in the field of development, with relevant research experience and a publication record.
  • Language skills: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in Portuguese, Spanish, or French is desirable.
  • Desirable knowledge of statistical software, such as STATA and R, for the Research and Project Management Areas.

Financial issues:

The IPC-IG / UNDP will not pay the intern for the internship period, but will provide a monthly stipend in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP internship policy. A stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation. All other expenses related to it will be borne by the intern or by the government or sponsoring institution. In addition, applicants must provide their own accommodation, transfers, visas, insurance, etc

How to apply?

Applicants must submit the following required documents by e-mail:
  • Updated CV/Resumé;
  • Proof of registration in a undergraduate level or graduate-level programme or an university certificate (for candidates that already concluded the programme);
  • The completed and signed form Application for the IPC Internship Programme 2020
  • A letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member or employer who has directly supervised the applicant in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the applicant’s performance – this is an optional document;
  • Copy of the applicant’s passport identification page, for overseas applicants; ID (RG) for Brazilians.

Applicants must send these documents to internship@ipc-undp.org quoting in the subject “IPC-IG Internship Programme”
The selection process will consist of CV analysis and interviews of the candidates. This process can take up to three months; The selected interns will not, under any circumstances, begin work until the Service Agreement has been signed.
