About the Position

Global Health Strategies is seeking an intelligent and passionate young professional interested in global health issues and with knowledge of public health policies and public affairs regarding the Brazil and Latin American landscape. Working alongside peers and senior management, Junior Program Associates help develop and execute advocacy, program, and communication strategies for our clients.

The Junior Program Associate should have project management skills and basic knowledge of public health issues, such as COVID, HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria, Maternal & Child Health, Nutrition/Food Security, or Vaccines and Health Systems.

The  Junior  Program  Associate should also be knowledgeable and interested in the Brazilian research and health technologies manufacturing agendas, as well as international cooperation and development, with a focus on global health.

Although part of the Brazil team, and Portuguese speaker, the candidate must also be fluent in English, as a significant portion of the work will be performed in  English.  Being able to communicate in Spanish is an important asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day support to operations of programmatic and advocacy activities;
  • Develop research on health policies, landscape mappings, and other relevant topics for GHS’ work;
  • Draft high-quality documents, including briefs, presentations, talking points, fact sheets, and meeting notes;
  • Translate documents in English, Portuguese and Spanish;
  • Support relationship management with partners, through face-to-face meetings, calls and updates by email, ensuring the smooth running of projects and activities;
  • Tracking project activities, budgets, and account deliverables;
  • Keep projects’ tools and resources updated;
  • Develop activities and financial reports to clients;
  • Provide information and fact-based research to support client activities;
  • Support the development of proposals to current and new clients and/or partners;
  • Apply strategic thinking and carry out activities to organize events that advance broad clients’ goals;
  • Act as a liaison between the program and the communications team supporting projects’ communication and advocacy activities.

Essential Qualifications

  • BA/BS, with training in development, international affairs, public health, or other relevant fields;
  • Professional work experience in development issues, preferably demonstrated experience in support of health, social development, or health research projects in Brazil;
  • Understanding of the global health landscape and desire to contribute to improving health in developing and resource-poor countries;
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint presentations;
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills;
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and planning-ahead capacity;
  • Deadline oriented;
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced work environment where multi-tasking is required;
  • Ability to work as part of a highly matrixed and multicultural team;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Availability for national and international travels;
  • Willing to work flexible hours as necessary.

Desired Qualifications

  • Additional foreign language (Spanish);
  • Experience  working  with  non-profit  organizations,  philanthropic  foundations, or  corporate social responsibility programs;
  • Experience conducting political and economic context analysis.
