Duties

The Emerging Voices (EV) Experiential Learning and Exchanges Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Emerging Voices and Alumni Specialist and has no supervisory responsibilities.  Coordinates the Consulate’s exchange programs for youth and communities that are not included in traditional U.S. diplomatic engagement.  Coordinates Consulate Public Diplomacy (PD) outreach to EV audiences through Experiential Learning (EXPL) projects, typically “learning through experience” activities such as tech or entrepreneurship camps, music and sports programs, journalism training, and other focused community engagement programs.  Designs, develops, identifies co-sponsors and funding sources, plans, and oversees a range of outreach activities in support of Mission goals.  Designs, plans and implements a broad range of activities to maintain contact with alumni of PD activities and initiatives. The Rio Consular District, comprising 35 million people across the states of Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, and Espírito Santo, is home to over 15% of Brazil’s population.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements

  • Progressively responsible experience in a multilingual, multicultural, multinational, or government environment is required, with marketing, public relations, communications, or education duties as a significant part of the job;
  • Knowledge of typical customer service and marketing tools designed to engage specific audience segments, particularly the EV sector, in Brazil is required;
  • University degree in communications, international relations, public policy, education, cultural studies, sports or technology management, tourism, or marketing is required.

Evaluations

Language
  • Fluency in reading/writing/speaking Portuguese required;
  • Fluency in reading/writing/speaking English required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Analytic skills:  Must be able to advise senior leaders of opportunities to promote Mission EXPL outreach objectives; identify, analyze, predict and assess EV audience attitudes; evaluate the impact of activities and projects and modify approaches for best outcomes;
  • Communication/Interpersonal skills:  Must have excellent customer relations, interpersonal cross-cultural communication skills, and be able to identify and engage key figures critical to developing EXPL priority initiatives;
  • Technical skills: Thorough, detailed knowledge of various computer software programs, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel is required.

Qualifications

All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
