Sobre a vaga:

The work of the intern to the British Consulate in Recife will focus on five areas: consulate administration, delivering events, political analysis, renewable energy trade support and managing the consul’s diary. In order to perform these roles, the intern will have the support of the Consul and the Trade and Investment Team in Recife, as well as from Her Majesty’s Government colleagues from other posts in Brazil.

The intern will work directly with the consul on the majority of issues covered by the consulate. The candidate will also have space to be independent and work on their own projects or with colleagues outside of the consulate in Recife.

Roles and responsibilities

Specifically, the intern will be expected to:

  • Produce political analysis in the build-up to the elections, which will go toward producing political commentary to be read by Brasilia and London;
  • Support the consul and the Trade and Investment team in improving the accessibility of UK renewable energy companies in the northeast of Brazil;
  • Organise any in-person or virtual events that the consulate may hold;
  • Make sure that the consulate office space is well maintained, including liaising with suppliers and coordinating with the financial department in the embassy;
  • Organise the consul’s agenda to ensure that travel and meetings are booked efficiently.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience  

  • Interest in Brazilian politics;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Teams;
  • Changing and Improving, Making Effective Decisions, Collaborating and Partnering, Delivering at Pace.

Desirable:

  • Interest in Renewable energy.
  • Interest in international trade.

  • You will be expected to go to the consulate on average two days per week. The rest of the time will be working from home. The number of days you will be needed in the consulate may vary;
  • The internship is offered on a six-month contract, which can be extended three times;
  • Since you will be speaking with colleagues from the UK it is desirable that you speak English. In order to increase the diversity of the pool of candidates who are able to apply, we only require an intermediate level of English upon starting the role;
  • We do not have any preference for the ideal candidate. Everyone who is able to deliver on the above is welcome to apply and will be treated equally.
